May 7, 2009 was Ryan's 1 year home.
Ryan was the last to come home, after a 147 day stay in the NICU. He was the largest baby out our 3. When he came home he weighed 7 1/2 lbs. We all called him Meatball. At the house we had 4 picture frames with a close up of each kid. Since Ryan was still in the NICU, I drew a picture of a baby, under the baby it read...Coming Soon, MEATBALL! It was too stinkin cute.
At first they were going to keep Ryan in the NICU longer because he would not eat. Instead they taught Greg and I how to out in an NG Tube and gave us a pump, so if he didn't eat we could tube'em. Since about July Ryan has been an eating fool. That boy loves food! He chews each bite a minimum of 20 times. He like to savor the flavor. =)
Ryan does have alot of developmental delays, more than the other 2. When he came home he was extremely floppy, he had no strength at all, and had every red flag for Cerebral Palsy. Ryan has came such a long way in a year. Although he only weighs 13 lb 14 oz, he is moving all over the place.
He climbs on everything. He is crawling, and pulling himself up and walking the furniture. He still has a long way before he's walking. But he has come such a long way.
Ryan still has some major issues from his prematurity. He has a major hearing loss in his left ear, he has a bit of fluid on the brain, but no shunt. The Dr's are pretty confident that he will outgrow it.
Ryan has the best laugh, but he won't do it for just anyone. He is a very serious child. People often tell us "He just looks like an old soul" He reminds me a lot of my Grandpa.
Ryan has beautiful crystal blue eyes. He's such a cute baby...all except that awful cry! He's got one of those high pitched scream/cry. It's horrible. When he 1st came home he had Colic pretty bad. I always said it was his cry that was gonna drive me to drink. lol.
Ryan is the reason the kids still don't sleep though the night. When he wakes he screams til everyone is up. Then gives you the biggest smile, as if he did it on purpose.
Still I couldn't imagine life without Ryan....and to think the Dr's wanted to reduce him during my pregnancy. Sure glad I didn't go along with their thinking.
